Macroing Your Way to Efficiency
If you have ever wondered if you could apply your incredibly knowledge of spreadsheet macro shenanigans to the broader world of windows, then there is an app for you. Webworker Daily has a great write up on just that.
“Computer use involves a lot of repetition, and I’ve found that some simple automation tools can save lots of time and hassle. In this post, I’ll discuss some of the easiest low-cost and free ways to automate workaday tasks on a Windows system.
One of my favorite ways to get the job done in Windows is a little application that you can download for free called StrokeIt. The program lets you associate mouse gestures with actions within applications. It’s like a very free-form variation on a macro recorder.”
Keeping Up with Passwords
I cannot even remember the password to my blogs half the time, so any utility that helps me keep up with them is supremely useful in my opinion. I do use Windows Passwords and Firefox helps me to keep up with them, but I use multiple computers so that can be tricky too. Regardless, Lifehack is reviewing some options today:
“With the proliferation of web services — there’s a new one out each day, it seems — it feels like we’re always creating new accounts, each with a different username and password.
The easy options — using the same password each time or writing them down on paper or in a spreadsheet — aren’t exactly the most secure. In fact, security experts strongly warn against these options as they leave you vulnerable to online theft.
So what’s a web surfer to do? If you’ve got more than a dozen services, you’re not going to remember all of them. It’s time to look into a password manager — and if you’re a cheapskate like me, you want a free one.”
Using Doodle to Increase Productivity
43 Folders has a great piece on using Doodle with the GTD system to revive projects that are not completed. Here is an excerpt:
“Maybe this is the GTD-er in me, but I have to admit a frustration with projects that peter off because there’s no one person near the helm who’s dedicated to defining and managing the group’s actions. It’s a Project Manager role, and if a group doesn’t choose and empower one person to take care of it, stuff simply won’t get done. Whether it’s deciding on a good night for dinner with friends or organizing the next board meeting, we all need a little help turning generic good ideas into real-world coordinates for action.”

LifeHack.org is featuring a wonderful list of 20 Free Applications to enhance your productivity. I found a few things on the list that I did not know about, and I am sure you will as well. According to them:

Collaborative Work Tools

As a result, we are constantly searching for new tools to use and better ways to collaborate. Some companies require AIM and others use more complex tools. In this article, I would like to cover the basic tools that you will need and other tools that you may not realize you need.
