Blogging for Bucks from the House

I neglected to mention another common way of earning money online, possibly the most attempted way, which is blogging. The way it works is you get people to come to your blog and you pepper them with advertising. The most common advertising solution is Google Adsense which is the King Cong of contextual advertising. It is contextual because the ads you see, theoretically, are related to the things you are reading about. That does backfire from time to time, but mostly it is somewhat related. Essentially, people pay Google to advertise on their behalf. Google then displays ads that the person designs. Those ads are displayed wherever the web designer decides to stick them. The people buying the ads pay per click and whenever someone clicks on one of the ads on the person’s blog, they get paid and Google gets an undisclosed amount as well.

That, in a nutshell, is the fuel of the internet. There are more ornate and off the wall ways to make money from your website but that is the preferred method. Affiliate programs, such as Amazon, are also good if you are writing about something related to the types of things they sell. You could also put up a donation button, through Paypal, which I still have not done and that can work as well. However, most bloggers spend most of their day staring at strange stats about visitors.

Blogging will most likely not make you rich quick. There are quite a few people who make quite a bit of money from it, but it is definitely not as easy as it sounds. I do not think I could live in Haiti off the money I am making right now from this source, but I suspect it may get better. Most websites you have heard of probably generate more money than you would think, but off the beaten path web sites can be hit or miss. The key is to build traffic through Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques and by tons and tons of networking with other bloggers. I throw in a bit of prayer for good measure but it must get intercepted between here and the recipient. However, I will illustrate the potential earnings by showing you an image you will soon not forget, which happens to be the picture of the check that Plentyoffish.com’s owner received for a month of website owning. That picture is a bit confusing because it was actually two months of earnings in one check since his bank actually rejected the previous month’s check, which sounds oddly like something my bank would do.
